Congratulations to all entrants of the 2015 Catholic Schools Week NSW/ACT Video Competition - ‘What will your Catholic school of tomorrow look like?’
We are delighted to announce the winners in each division for this year’s competition, including students from Christ The King Catholic Primary School, North Rocks winning first prize in the Primary Group category.
Catholic schools from across NSW and ACT produced 134 video entries this year and the judging panel were highly impressed with the outstanding quality of the entries, particularly in terms of the technical execution and creative vision displayed. As one judge stated, 'We have some wonderfully talented children out there in our Catholic schools.'
The criteria for judging was based on the impact of message, creativity and originality, the quality of the video and the effective use of available technology to enhance the message.
There was a winner in each of four different categories, with the biggest surprise being the level of creativity and skill of the primary school group category. Judges were so impressed that additional runner up prizes have been awarded to recognise this quality.
Winners
Winner: Primary IndividualJahmalia Downes, a student from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School Kiama NSW, was awarded first prize in the Catholic Schools Week Student Video Competition Primary Individual category. Jahmalia used Lego and household objects to create a great concept of the future using her toys and imagination. The judges really enjoyed Jahmalia’s concept that in the future kids will be learning in any location. |

Winner: Secondary IndividualFinlae Watson, a student at Holy Spirit College, Bellambi received first prize in the Catholic Schools Week Student Video Competition Secondary Individual category. Finlae’s approach is very creative using sketches, drawings and photography to show how Catholic schools will flourish in the future. |
Winner: Secondary GroupSt Patrick’s College Sutherland NSW took out first prize in the Catholic Schools Week Student Video Competition Secondary Group category. Their video has a very professional look and feel. The message is clear and their entry demonstrated a level of mastery over the available technology used to support that message. |
Overall, judges were very impressed by the students’ creativity in approaching the task set. A range of original and imaginative styles included animation, news reports, stop-motion and interviews. Students used a range of available technologies including phones, iPADS, computers and video cameras, often the school’s equipment, as a medium to tell their stories. It was also evident that students were well supported and encouraged by their parents and school community.
