St Patrick's Kitchen Garden filmed by Catholic EarthCare

St Patrick's Primary School, Blacktown has a Kitchen Garden that was established to create a natural approach to oral language through fun, activity and exercise. The school and its garden was selected to feature in a video created by Catholic EarthCare for the International Year of Light and Soils. The video showcased the school's Kitchen Garden and the way it enables students to learn about the role gardens play and also about growing their own produce.

A volunteer for the Kitchen Garden, Clare Maloney, said "the students really did shine with confidence as they discussed the aspects of their outdoor learning space which are most important to them".

The kitchen garden group shared a good general knowledge about the vegetables, herbs and flowers which they have planted and nurtured with their teachers and were able to act out how plants grow from seeds to maturity.

With the guidance of a generous parent, the harvested produce was cooked, the table was set and adorned with a yellow St Patrick's Rose that was picked from the garden. The delicious stir-fry was then appreciated by the 'Future Chefs'.
