Kids face up to the naked truth

Telegraph Article

Schools are inviting police into classrooms to lecture children on the dangers of smart devices and social media.

And families are being warned that large numbers of under-age children are creating social media accounts without their parents’ knowledge.

St Patrick’s Primary School Blacktown principal Anne Marrins said children were also sharing passwords to give each other access to the internet.

“Instead of passing notes around the classroom they are now using technology — many of our (primary) students have a smart phone,” Ms Marrins said.

“We have a police liaison officer come in to talk to the children about cyber bullying. But (education) really needs to happen in the home as many parents are not aware when their children are using devices.”

Educators say young children may appear to be “technology savvy” but their brains do not develop at the same rate as their digital skills.
